Darke Rural Electric Cooperative has proudly powered your community since 1936, but what really makes our co-op special is our members. Without you, there would be no us!

Ninety years ago, members of this community were still living in the dark and came together to put an end to that. Together, they established Darke REC, set the first utility pole, and began running electricity to their homes and farms. How cool is that?

Electric cooperatives like Darke REC are nonprofits, which means we provide electricity to our members at-cost and always operate in our members’ best interest. That means:

  1. Prioritizing power reliability and rate stability
  2. Using safe work practices at all times
  3. Supporting worthy causes in our community
  4. Returning excess revenue to members
