The 2008 Great Darke County Fair
Darke Rural Electric Cooperative kicked-off The Great Darke County Fair with the help of “CFL Charlie.” The compact fluorescent light bulb character helped promote the CFL program sponsored by the cooperative. If you were unable to collect your CFL light bulbs during the fair, you can bring three incandescent bulbs to the cooperative in exchange for three CFL bulbs.
Darke REC's energy display in the coliseum not only featured compact fluorescent lighting, but also provided information on the EnviroWatts® program, as well as the Kill-A-Watt program which allows members to borrow an electric use monitor to determine use on different appliances. Also on display was information on scholarship, youth tour and Operation Round-up.
To show our appreciation to our members, as well as the rest of the community, a daily prize was given to one adult and one child. The prizes were meant to promote electricity, safety or the environment.
The adult winners this year were: Gail Teaford, Kathy Brown, Dorothy Poeppelman, Doug Watercutter, Ty Goubeaux, Ron King, Stacy Vanhorn, Peggy Rehmert and Diane Cook. Winners of the children's prizes were: Cydney Adams, Ryan Fourman, Taycie Powell, Amy Schmitz, Vance Wetzel, Alexis Wilcox, Jayda Mangen, Allie Penkal, Meghan McCans and Nathan Perreira. The cooperative congratulates these people and extends its gratitude to all who participated. Along with daily prizes, one lucky member received a $150 bill credit. This year's winner of the $150 bill credit was W. T. Lewis of Union City.
Many of you probably noticed that Darke Rural Electric Cooperative, along with Buckeye Power, our power provider for the 25 electric cooperatives serving Ohio, sponsored other events at the fair this year, including the cheerleading contest.
Now that another year of the fair has gone by, it goes without saying that it is the members and the community who have made it successful. Being a part of the fair enables us to extend our commitment to the community and show our members exciting steps toward the future of the cooperative.

Every year when we check our meters we
find there are some meters that we don't
have access to. For safety purposes, we
must have access to every meter on the system.
If the meter at your location for one
reason or another is not accessible to Co-op
personnel, please call and let us help you to
determine the easiest way to move it. If
your location is on the list to have meters
checked and we can't get to it, you will be
receiving a letter on this matter.
